Topic: Description

Question: What is the role of description in today’s fiction and nonfiction?

Answer: “…the long descriptive passages of yesterday have given way to dialogue….”

“Busy readers in today’s world of competitive communication usually look for ‘the action.’ They want the story—not lovely prose.”

“In other words…description may be essential to most fiction and nonfiction, but…keep it brief and blend it in.” Don James, July 1969.
